Karver KSW46 Winch Extra Speed
The KSW46 is an innovative and very (very) efficient 4-speed automatic winch : 2 speeds identical to other winches on the market PLUS 2 additional extremely fast speeds. The speed change takes place as on a traditional winch by changing the direction of rotation. The winch automatically returns to 1st gear when you release the tension. The KSW is more of a winch dedicated to sailors.
When maneuvering, the difference is just incredible : the line is “swallowed” 6 times faster than a winch of a similar size. Many sailors have already adopted it and are gaining ground with each maneuver : sending of sails, gybes, tacking, … These manual winches are so quick that you no longer have to pick up slack in the line on the fly. The maneuvers are safe and fast, the sails wear less, the boat loses less speed, … 6 times faster = 6 times less crank turn to give. The KSW is simply the fastest winch on the market!
Karver Tips:
- Never use a Karver winch as a docking cleat in order to not stress unnecessarily the internal load sensor.
- If you change to a KSW, you will always find the 2 speeds of a traditional winch. What we are offering is 2 extra speeds much faster. If your goal is to “win” effortlessly or gain more power, choose our KPW range instead.
- On a KSW winch the 2 additional speeds are the first 2. On a KPW winch, the 2 additional speeds are the last 2.
- Concretely, the counter listening is directly set up in the self tailing. When tacking, all you have to do is wincher. Even with a well-trained crew, the maneuver will be faster than by hand.
- Some customers would like to combine the 2 standard speeds, the 2 ultra fast speeds of the KSW and the 2 ultra soft speeds of the KPW… Sorry, but that is not possible! We will have to make a choice!
- We are announcing a winch 6 times faster but if you add the time saved by not adding 2 turns on the winch after having taken up the slack by hand and the time to put the handle back, we can probably announce a winch at the less 10 times faster!
- KSW winches are more intended for sailors looking to gain length with each maneuver. However, many customers quickly realized that winning faster means winning for less time and therefore with less effort.
- On racing yachts it is not uncommon to install several KSW, KPW and KCW models. The expectations are not the same for a runner-up winch or a genoa sheet winch.
- The arrow on the headstock indicates the 1st speed which is the fastest.
- For optimal use, the line remains permanently on the self tailing and from the start of the maneuver.
- The 4 speeds are instinctive. As soon as the efforts are too great, change direction and the speed will change automatically.
- The winch returns to 1st gear at each tack / jibe as soon as the load in the line drops sharply.
- The workloads of the KSW are the same as the other winches on the market. You can therefore replace without thinking a competitor winch 40 by a KSW40. The dimensions are also very similar.
- In the context of a replacement, the fixing holes are the same as those of our American colleague…
- The most spectacular applications : gybes, sending of sails, tacking.
- Like all winches, the rope must have a minimum of tension to avoid possible overhandling.
- Our ratchets are the same as other brands. So you will find them all over the world.
- KSW winches are delivered without handle. You can use any crank … including our beautiful carbon cranks. The prices are very close to other One Touch cranks (aluminum, etc.) on the market.
Our Part # KARPF1205831 | Karver Part # PF1205831
FEATURES
- 2 winches in one : 2 standard speeds and 2 additional very powerful speeds.
- 6 times faster than other winches on the market (equivalent headstock size) : 1 turn of the crank = 65 cm against 15 cm (30 cm on a 3-speed winch)
- The fastest winch on the market. No Equal for Equal Size.
- A formidable weapon for any racer looking to maneuver faster.
- Listening is never resumed by hand. A saving of precious time in turns and gybes for solo skippers or small crews.
- A benchmark on many Class 40 and sailboats racing with small crews (Transquadra for example).
- 4 automatic speeds. Speed change at each change of rotation.
- Available in 3 sizes : 40, 46 & 52.
- Applications : Tacks, jibes, sending of sails
- Speed, fluidity and safety of the maneuver (the ropes remain on the self-tailing without having to take up the “slack”.
- The sails wear less for a long time and are damaged less (stability of form and longevity)
- All the winches are equipped with self tailing – Made of aluminum, hard anodized and black.
- The materials chosen limit corrosion and component wear.
- Easy to maintain.
- 5 years warranty.
